Alaniz Health CEO Roxanne Alaniz Nominated for the Earvin “Magic” Johnson Business & Healthcare Award by Diversity Alliance for Science

San Francisco, CA – July 15, 2024 – Alaniz Health, a division of Alaniz Marketing focused on advancing healthcare equity and clinical trial diversity, is proud to announce that CEO Roxanne Alaniz has been nominated for the prestigious Earvin “Magic” Johnson Business & Healthcare Award. This award, established in 2009 by Diversity Alliance for Science (DA4S), honors individuals, corporations, or organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to furthering diversity in healthcare. Roxanne’s nomination recognizes her groundbreaking work in promoting diversity in clinical research, particularly through her efforts to engage underrepresented populations in clinical trials.

The nomination was highlighted at the 2024 DA4S West Coast Conference, where leaders in business and healthcare innovation gathered to celebrate those driving change. Roxanne Alaniz’s contributions, especially in the realm of clinical trial diversity, have significantly impacted the landscape of healthcare research.

For over six years, Roxanne and her team at Alaniz Marketing have partnered with clinical researchers to reimagine how clinical trials are marketed to underserved populations. Their work has driven thousands of underrepresented individuals, including Latinos and Black Americans, to participate in critical research studies, ensuring more inclusive and representative data sets that contribute to healthcare equity.

“Our goal is to connect people who have historically been left out of the clinical research process,” said Roxanne Alaniz. “It’s about fostering trust, understanding, and inclusion. I am honored to be nominated for this award, but the real recognition belongs to the communities and partners who are helping to change the future of healthcare.”

Innovative Solutions for Diversity in Clinical Trials

One of the highlights of Roxanne’s career is her leadership on a multi-year project with the UCSF Brain Health Registry, where her team helped drive over 10,000 volunteers to the registry, including more than 6,700 Latinos and 4,400 older adult Latinos. The innovative campaign addressed cultural, linguistic, and generational barriers through a tailored approach that connected with the target population. Alaniz’s strategies also influenced other major clinical trials, such as the Community Engaged Digital Alzheimer’s Research (CEDAR) Study and the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI).

Roxanne’s commitment to diversity has expanded beyond clinical research, impacting public health campaigns for underserved communities. Under her leadership, Alaniz Marketing has launched successful campaigns focused on COVID-19 awareness, fentanyl education, and autism advocacy, all designed to engage communities of color and ensure their voices are represented in healthcare solutions.

Recognition and Legacy

Roxanne’s work has earned her co-authorship in several research publications, including white papers on clinical trial diversity, and speaking engagements at key industry events such as the 2024 BioPharma E-Marketing Summit in Philadelphia. Her nomination for the Earvin “Magic” Johnson Business & Healthcare Award adds to a growing list of honors, including the 2024 Netty Award for Cultural Design Impact in Healthcare and being named among San Francisco Business Times’ Top 100 BIPOC and Woman-Owned Companies.
